Q & A with Susan Chavarria What is your favorite color? Tangerine, When I was little, I loved the big Crayola boxes with all of the colors, turquoise, lemon yellow, hunter green, brick red, slate gray, periwinkle and even “burnt sienna” which I think they discontinued as a crayon color. Uh Oh, I think I just “dated” myself. In a few words, how would your friends describe you? My friends call me “Elaine” on Seinfeld, except a much better dancer! In a few words, how would your colleagues describe you? Detail, Detail and more details. Great at follow-through, very fair. In a few words, how would your family describe you? Lucy from the Peanuts Comic Strip: I have strong “leadership” qualities! I am not bossy… I just have great ideas! What does your family think you do for a living? My family thinks that I sell satellite space. My mom, Becky says that I “really come through for people”. What is your professional background? Graduated from the University of Maryland with a Pre-Law background (English and History), went to Paralegal School in Philadelphia, worked as a paralegal for 5 years in the litigation field in trial preparation….(I kept those litigators organized!) I took acting class at night and one of our assignments was to send out resumes to local production facilities. Well lo and behold; I landed a job at Potomac Television which at that time had the CNN contract for outsourcing staff. Worked at Potomac for 6 years managing PR accounts. My specialties included VNR Production and Satellite Media tours distribution, placement and production. Worked at PVS for 6 years as Director of Sales. Clients included CNBC, Healthweek and Medialink. Brenda Cecil was the best Director of Operations…She worked really hard to keep my clients happy. Flying Colors Broadcasts was my favorite client. Constance, Lynn and I always talked about how fun it would be to all work together and there you go…..the universe brought us all together again. Doesn't life work in funny ways? So now I am the satellite space division gal and love being on the Flying Colors Team. What excites you in an average day at FC? “Average Day” at Flying Colors….We never have Average Days...that is why we like it because every day is an adventure. It is so exciting to coordinate a 6 city interactive, multi-downlink global broadcast project. On any given day, we are speaking with producers in Beijing , truck engineers in India , directors in Finland …we have resources in most countries around the world. We pride ourselves in pulling together the most challenging transmission jobs. This is the foundation of Flying Colors Broadcasts. We have a strong team, committed to our clients to make their projects as successful as they can be. What attributes from you personal life fall into FC? Personal attributes that I bring to work include my “love of life”, joy, sense of humor and a positive “can-do-attitude”. I believe in treating people the way I like to be treated. I am a nurturer. I like to network too. I love to match people up with the right projects. I love to have all the paperwork and answers to my clients' questions to them before they ask! Accomplishment is a good word! What is your favorite age? I like Constance 's answer for this. Let's just say, I have learned to deal with age “gracefully”! Who is your best friend? Best client? My big “kiwi” hubby Blair and my mom "the Beckster!" All my clients have unique personalities and loveable attributes! What is your favorite "tool" at your work?
