Q & A with Erin Murphy

What is your favorite color? Oooh… This is one that I always struggle with. I don't know. I really like blue, and right now I'm going through a pink phase, and I am strangely attracted to all red items. I guess I really like all colors except green. Not that I hate green, but if I had to pick my least favorite color, which isn't the question, it would be green. There, I effectively avoided the question.

In a few words, how would your friends describe you? Lively, Outgoing, Dedicated, Hardworking, and “Funtastic”.

In a few words, how would your colleagues describe you? The Flying Colors Princess – and I think some of the above would apply as well.

In a few words, how would your family describe you? Caring, thoughtful, and busy - because when I go home I have about 50 people to visit and only 24 hours to fit everyone in.

What does your family think you do for a living? They think I do something with satellites and every time I go home I try to explain it, but I'm still not sure if they get it or not, although I do think each trip home they are starting to understand a little more. (Or they have perfected the “Now-I-get-it-nod”.)

What is your professional background? I graduated from Allegheny College in 2003 with a B.A. in Communication Arts. I began at Flying Colors in the summer of 2003 and have spent the last year learning all about satellite transmissions, video production, and all of the pieces and details that go into putting on successful broadcasts.

What excites you in an average day at FC? The energy and enthusiasm of the people I work with makes FCB a great place to work. There is always something new coming up and as we always say, “there's never a dull moment at Flying Colors.” Being able to help coordinate communication between people around the world is very exciting in itself. It is also very rewarding to see all of your hard work pay off with a successful broadcast or a compliment from a satisfied customer.

What attributes from you personal life fall into FC? I think my positive attitude and commitment to whatever I am doing, whether it be in my personal life or in the working environment allows me to approach all that life throws at me with a level-head. My motto has always been 100% at all times and that includes work, play, and everything in between.

What is your favorite age? I hope that whatever age I currently am will always be my favorite age. I don't really think it is about how old you are, but about how you act. I know 25 year olds who act like they are 50, but I also know 50 year olds who act like they are 25.

Who is your best friend?  Best client? With my infinite years of wisdom I have found that it is unwise to single out “bests”. “Bests” are very circumstantial and are dependant on whom / what you are working with at the moment. Although I do love all of my friends and of course all of our clients.

What is your favorite "tool" at your work? Our FTP site or the Internet. Both have been extremely beneficial in allowing us and clients to work on projects remotely. Gotta love technology!
