Webinar Information

This Webinar is the second of two professional development opportunities dedicated to language and literacy development in young children who are dual language learners (DLLs) and speak a language other than English at home. Part of the year-long series, Ready for Success: Supporting DLLs in Head Start and Early Head Start, this Webinar will focus on supporting literacy development in children, birth to five.

The Webinar will be divided into three segments, each about 30 minutes long. The segments will highlight practical suggestions and resources useful to Head Start programs and will include video clips in home and classroom settings. The Webinar will feature experts and program staff.

Topics for Webinar include:

  • What is the connection between language development and literacy development for children who are learning in two languages?
  • What are effective teaching strategies to promote children's early literacy development, including print awareness and writing?
  • How can families support early literacy development at home?
  • What is a planned language approach and how can it be implemented in a classroom?
